The following is a whole bunch of advice as to how to disconnect a seatbelt beeper on your Acura RSX. The following is to be used ONLY to avoid an annoying reminder; no responsibility is taken for lack of seatbelt use - obviously you should wear it at all times. All this advice is available in other places online, this is just a compilation, tested on a 2003 RSX.

Route 1 - which I wish I'd taken.

Your seatbelt receiver can be opened using a T-10 safety screw bit (TORX with a hole in the center). Pull the smaller half of the receiver towards you, and slide the bigger one forward and out, to expose the inside of the receiver fully. Inside you can notice an electric switch with 3 wires leaving it. DO NOT CUT THESE WIRES. Instead, just pull the switch off, and wrap it in the "seatbelt connected" position with some duct-tape. Problem solved - put switch back, close the seatbelt receiver, be not bothered by beeping when you're going to buckle up anyways.

Route 2 - which I did take.

CUT THE WIRES. The switch in the receiver will be attached to a blue/red stripe wire, a red/blue stripe wire and a black wire. Once you cut this (having not disconnected the battery in advance), you'll trip the SRS warning, make your airbags work differently in case of an accident, and make you/your car unhappy. Out of the three wires, a connection of red/blue stripe and black means your seatbelt is unbuckled, and a connection of blue/red stripe and black means your seatbelt is buckled. That second one is the one you want - solder or twist the two wires together. If you had disconnected your battery in advance, you're done, if not, your SRS warning has been tripped (your car thinks it's been in an accident) and you need to reset it.

Because it's hardish to quickly get at the MES connector (to perform the sequence requred), I plugged in a stripped end of a cut-off extension cord into one side of it, and left that hanging under the dashboard, using a screwdriver to short circuit it on the other side when required. Once again, this is a bit strange, note that what you're working with is the plug itself, not the outlet it plugs in to.

All this stuff is located under your steering wheel - covered up to look pretty. Open the compartment by turning two "locks" to lift the cover off. There's also a second cover very nearby, locked by a single lock, that you can also take off, that makes the access to the MES connector quite a bit easier. The MES connector looks like the drawing shown below - it's a yellow connector with 2 (green and a black) wires running into it.

SRS Reset - from http://autorepair.about.com/library/faqs/bl603g.htm

(not an RSX picture, but, a very similar type-o-deal)

  1. Make sure the ignition switch is OFF.
  2. Connect the SCS service connector (A) to the MES connector (2 pin) (B). Do not use a jumper wire.
  3. Turn the ignition switch ON).
  4. The SRS indicator light will come on for about six seconds, and then go off. Remove the SCS service connector from the MES connector (2 pin) within four seconds after the light goes off.
  5. The SRS indicator light will come on again. Reconnect the SCS service connector to the MES connector (2 pin) within four seconds after the light comes on.
  6. When the SRS indicator light goes off, remove the SCS service connector from the MES connector (2 pin) within four seconds .
  7. The SRS indicator light will blink two times indicating that the memory has been erased.
  8. Turn the ignition switch OFF, and wait for ten seconds.

SRS Reset - version 2.0 - from http://www.knology.net/%7Ejediklc/srsreset.htm

It is a yellow connector with two wires in it that is plugged into the fuse box, unplug it and pull it down. Once you have done that you can begin the process of erasing the memory. NOTE: This will only reset your SRS System if what caused it to trigger has been fixed, Ex: turning the ignition on with any SRS Plugs disconnected, such as pulling your seat out.

(not an RSX picture, but, a very similar type-o-deal)

1st step in erasing the memory is to turn the ignition off and connect the SCS Service connector to the MES Plug,
2nd Turn Ignition on. SRS indicator light will come on for about 6 seconds then go off.
3rd Disconnect SCS service connector for MES connector within 4 seconds after SRS indicator light goes off. SRS indicator light will come on again.
4th Reconnect SCS service connector the MES connector within 4 seconds after SRS light comes on. SRS indicator light will go off.
5th Disconnect SCS service connector from MES connector within 4 seconds. SRS indicator light will indicate that memory is erased by blinking 2 times.
6th Turn ignition off, and wait 10 seconds. Start vehicle like normal and light should come on and go out like normal. You have reset your SRS light, congrats.

If it does not work the first time try it again, the timing has to be perfect. My first time it took me 3 attempts before it worked, but it did work.
